Typical 'Day in the Life' of a Recruitment Consultant at STR

8:30am – 9am – Day Planning

  • Catch up on new e-mails and messages. Address any that require immediate action.
  • Plan the key action points for the day

9:00 – 10:30 am – Candidates

  • Contact any new starters, ensure that they have arrived on-site with the client and provide any information or assistance if required
  • Work through short-lists of suitable candidates for current live roles and pre-screen them via telephone/face-to-face interviews
  • Following pre-screening, submit interested and relevant candidates to clients.

10:30 – 11:30 – Existing Clients

  • Contact existing clients to update on the status of all live vacancies, including following up on CVs that have been submitted, discussing their suitability and highlighting the best matches. Agree which to schedule interviews for, and confirm arrangements and format.
  • Qualify any new requirements clients may have. Manage expectations regarding availability of suitable candidates in the market, and arrange timescales for providing a pre-screened shortlist for their consideration
  • Discuss any outstanding or potential offers, provide market intelligence where required, i.e. market rates, skill shortage areas, etc.

11:30-12:30 – Working Vacancies / Candidate Sourcing

  • Source candidates for newly received requirements utilising all possible avenues of candidate generation, including internal database, external job boards, social media and networking
  • Advertise all new and on-going requirements on all available platforms, ensuring to write engaging and interesting content to attract high calibre candidates
  • Contact all sourced candidates about current and prospective vacancies. If not suitable for any live requirements, discuss the type of opportunities that they are interested in and plan a marketing strategy to identify clients that would be interested in their skills
  • Ensure all candidates to be submitted are fully pre-screened, provided with all information about the requirement and client, and are compliant to live / work in the UK.

1:00pm – 2:00pm - Lunch

  • Catch up on any new e-mails.

2:00pm –4:00 – Business Development

  • Work through current target list of clients that we are looking to build relationships with and make business development calls to try and commence a working relationship
  • Follow up on any sales calls made in the previous week to ensure that marketing collateral was received and update on any questions they may have about STR’s services and how we can benefit their organisation

4:00pm – 5:00pm - Interviews / Job Offers

  • Contact all candidates booked in for interview during the next few days and ensure that they have all the information that they need. Provide last minute tips, advice or guidance and go through any questions that they may have about the process.
  • Contact any candidates that we have received offers for – communicate our congratulations, answer any questions they may have, and provide guidance on how to approach the resignation process with their current employer. Arrange start date details for the candidate and organise any required paperwork for their new role.
  • Contact any candidates that have been unsuccessful in interview / application processes and provide constructive feedback for them
  • Update clients on all interview arrangements, start dates of offered candidates, and candidate feedback from those they have interviewed.

5:00pm – 5:30pm – Administration and Planning

  • Complete any outstanding administration for the day, ensuring all notes and documents are up to date on STR’s database
  • Make a bullet point list of outstanding activities that need to be actioned / added to my day plan tomorrow

Based just outside of Portsmouth, we are looking for 10 driven and passionate individuals who are looking for a recruitment career. If you are a graduate or have a passion for sales/direct sales experience this might be the opportunity for you.

Our award winning training offers you the support and guidance you will need to become the best recruiter on the South Coast.

The Academy will involve 1 week’s Business Development training onsite at Quay Point, Portsmouth with one of our founding Directors. Once you have completed the basics, you will spend 3 weeks honing your sales skills within a controlled training environment. Training continues throughout your first year covering resourcing, advertising, social media best practice, database use and advanced business development.
