This Pride Month, we’re celebrating and supporting our LGBTQ+ colleagues and the wider community with a Rainbow Day!
Flying the flag
Our EDI Board is focused on making sure that STR is an attractive and welcoming place to work for all. They’ve been working hard this year, with new personalised training on D&I and unconscious bias being introduced, but June is party month!
On Tuesday, we celebrated Pride with what has become an STR tradition – Rainbow Day! The whole company gets involved with flags and bunting, a Parade of Pride (showing off our most vibrant attire), a tattoo station (so we can live our rainbow butterfly tattoo dreams), and a massive celebration cake – because it’s just not a party otherwise!
Meet the team
But what does all this actually mean for LGBTQ+ individuals? It’s an often cited fact that creating a more diverse workforce is proven to deliver a more productive and successful business, with happier, more engaged staff. Our Professional Services team, is a case in point. Taylor, Julian and Caitlyn all form part of this recruitment team, led by Associate Director, Tor:
It wasn’t until Taylor joined our team that I realised what we were missing. Not only did he very quickly become a great asset to the business, he also brought with him a different dimension. It felt as though we then started to attract a more diverse candidate pool for the vacancies within our team. Julian joined us last year and then Caitlyn at the beginning of this year. Both are part of the LGBTQ+ community and the energy and enthusiasm they have bought with them has been fantastic.
Taylor confirms,
“What truly drives us forward is the team we are a part of. Within our team at STR, led by Victoria Lacey, we have made it a priority to create an inclusive environment that embraces individuals from all walks of life, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. This commitment to inclusivity has directly contributed to our team’s success, as it has become a safe space where people can collaborate on ideas, openly discuss their mental health and personal struggles, and celebrate individual and group achievements. Our collective resilience has made us a stronger and more cohesive team.
As the newest member of the team, Caitlyn has been made to feel welcomed and accepted: “I feel incredibly lucky to work for a company that not only values diversity and inclusion but actively pursues it, and has created an environment where people from all backgrounds are accepted and celebrated for their contributions. It has allowed me to be my full self at work, and to feel supported and respected by my colleagues.
Having worked in sales environments before, Julian had concerns about fitting in but quickly realised he had nothing to fear: “During my third week at STR Group, we had the privilege of celebrating Rainbow Day—a day dedicated to honouring the LGBTQ+ colleagues within the company. It was an experience that made me feel not only comfortable but also valued in my new workplace. In that moment, I realised that Insignis and STR Group was more than just a place to perform my job; it was where I aspired to build my long-term career.”
