Next weekend, 23rd/24th July, Blackfield Associates will be taking on (and conquering!) the National 3 Peaks Challenge.
By putting themselves through the gruelling ascent of the 3 highest mountains in the UK within a 24-hour time frame, the boys from Blackfield are hoping to raise funds and awareness for our charity partners, In2Science UK.
In2Science UK work tirelessly to promote Social Mobility and Diversity in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) empowering young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their potential through life-changing opportunities that give them insights into careers and research, and boost their skills and confidence. For some, getting into their desired field can seem like an uphill struggle, so what better way to highlight awareness than struggling up a few hills!
James Rafter, Tom Fitzmaurice, Oliver Page and James Gigg (pictured l-r) have been training hard and, with just a week to go, feel more than ready to take on the challenge.
“We’re all feeling pretty confident,” confirms Tom, the team’s own Mr Motivator. We’ve been getting up at stupid o’clock, pounding up and down Butser Hill, we’ve had a trial climb at Snowden and put in some serious gym time.”
All for a great cause
Through the team’s exertion, and the generosity of their supporters, we can help In2Science UK continue to do the good work they do with disadvantaged young people, providing them with the skills, knowledge and confidence to pursue higher education courses at University, gain relevant STEM work experience and keep those bright and creative minds flowing into STEM professions across the UK.
