STR Group is proud to announce another successful litter-picking afternoon, organised as part of our company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
The University of Portsmouth kindly joined us for our beach clean, facilitated by Ian Mackfall, the Environmental Manager for Whale Island and Horsea Island, part of the Royal Navy MOD.
The afternoon began with a team of enthusiastic volunteers eager to make a difference. We were provided with gloves, litter pickers, and rubbish bags, before heading out to the beach.
It was a beautiful day with clear skies and sunshine, which made the litter pick even more enjoyable. We split into groups and covered different areas of the beach.
Throughout the afternoon, we collected a significant amount of litter. We found plastic bottles, sweet wrappers, cigarette butts, tires, and much more. We were shocked to see how much plastic and waste had washed up onto the shore, and it was amazing to be able to make such a tangible difference to the environment.
Business Development Liaison Officer at The University of Portsmouth commented:
“It was heartening to be doing something to actively reduce the volume of litter along our local coastlines. And the sea-air and sound of waves lapping the shore definitely saw us returning to the office feeling revitalised.”
It was a successful day, and we look forward to continuing to work towards a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
