I was looking for a new challenge and the desire to ‘get my hands dirty.’ With a history of roles in major PLCs, I found myself craving a role in a company going through the excitement of the small to medium growth curve and everything it brings with it!
Be careful what you wish for! In February 2017, I joined STR to build the Group’s Legal & Compliance team from scratch.
It has bought with it challenge after challenge as we have worked hard to create an environment that encourages growth and wraps around it a culture of not only doing it well but doing things right.
We have ventured into the US, Switzerland and Europe with new entities as we diversify and explore new opportunities to take this company to the next level.
The law very rarely stands still. What is deemed as a relatively unregulated industry is more regulated than ever. So we have now brought the Contractor Onboarding team under the Legal & Compliance department. This enables us to offer support Group-wide from contracts to contractor onboarding, to IR35 and AWR advice and from contractor engagement solutions worldwide to support with strategic planning at Board level.
I now have a team of 5 amazing and very driven individuals whose attention to detail, pride in their work and desire for knowledge makes me very proud. They are encouraged to knowledge-share, take on projects and explore career development options at every given opportunity. Not only does this create a robust delivery to the Group but also a working environment based on encouragement and challenge within the safety of a collaborative and supportive team.
I have not stopped learning from the moment I stepped through STR’s front door and whilst there are days I would love to hit the pause button and take a breath or two, I am passionate about what I do and I love the people that I do my job for and with. I cannot imagine what’s around the corner, but I’m bracing myself!
